A young man traveling the world to study genetics has a special gift: he is a born telepath. Another man, one in the prime of his life, is also traveling: he is on a search for answers and trying to run from his past. He is running from the loss of his grandfather, running from the prejudice and the hate of a world that does not seem to understand his own special gift. Charles Xavier and Eric Lehnsherr somehow find each other and realize that they are not alone, that their goals are not so different. Together they work to try and create a machine that can find others like them.
Over the years of development, and later with the help of their machine Cerebro, they found their first students: Jean Grey, Scott Summers, Henry McCoy, Warren Worthington, Robert Drake, and Raven Darkholme. With training, these students became not only pupils, but also trusted companions to their teachers as well as mentors to the young mutants who came after them.
For the first few years, Xavier and Lehnsherr worked out of Xavier’s personal home, training them only in the use of their powers. However, they soon decided that they could better help young students by opening a formal school, featuring both classes to stretch them academically as well as their more special talents. After consulting with their most trusted students, Xavier repurposed his dead father’s estate into a campus and Lehnsherr ensured they achieved accreditation for secondary education.
At the beginning of 2011, the doors of the new Xavier-Lehnsherr Institute of Higher Learning officially opened, and Charles and Eric began recruitment of young mutants they found using the more updated, more powerful Cerebro. Thus began the most unique school in the entire world…
